When I moved to Maine in 1970, I would very frequently go to New York City to visit artist and photographer friends and to check out the galleries and museums. Unfortunately, in the late ‘70s the city was an unfriendly place to visit.
But by the early ‘80s New York became safer and more friendly so I started going back down. I started photographing the marks we make on the building and the traces we leave on our urban landscape. I began calling images of these traces Urban Archeology.
